Koos van der Lende in conversation with Martin Osner
Glimpse of Glory
Martin Osner, Koos's gallerist and friend of more than thirty years, sits down with him to talk about the eighteen years behind the panoramas: travelling alone for weeks with a manual camera and slide film, the book Moments of Grace, and the picture that moved him most.
Law and Grace
Koos explains how the rules of composition are like the law, and why the panoramic frame needs grace. He talks about giving his best for the Lord, waiting twelve days for one picture, and why the slide itself is his canvas.
A Studio in the Wilderness
Koos began in a studio with thirteen lights, and when he went into the wilderness he took the studio with him: reflector boards in the desert, mirrors that throw the sun back onto a tree, and a camera left out overnight wrapped in plastic. He tells the story of his famous welwitschia, four frames exposed as the sun went down, and of the crocodile on the flooded Chobe.
